ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Final: What Happens If Rain Interrupts? Shubman Gill Confident About India's Chances

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final between India and New Zealand is set to take place on March 9 in Dubai. Both teams are ready for the big match, but one major worry is rain. If the weather does not cooperate, what will happen?

What If Rain Stops Play?

Since this is a knockout match, ICC has set some clear rules:

  • Each team must play at least 25 overs for a valid result.
  • If rain stops the match on March 9, it will continue on March 10 (Reserve Day) from where it stopped.
  • If rain washes out play on both days, the trophy will be shared between India and New Zealand.

Shubman Gill: "2024 T20 World Cup Win Gave Us Confidence"

Ahead of the final, India’s vice-captain Shubman Gill said the team is feeling confident, especially after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup.

"Once you win a title, it gives you confidence. You don’t feel desperate for another win, which helps in handling pressure. Winning in 2024 doesn’t mean we want this title any less, but it has made us more balanced," Gill said.

India’s Strength: A Powerful Batting Line-up

Gill also talked about India's strong batting, which takes pressure off the top order.

"This is the best batting line-up I have played with. Rohit bhai is one of the best openers in white-ball cricket, and Virat is one of the best ODI batsmen ever. Because of our batting depth, we can play freely," he added.

Will Rain Change the Match?

If the match is shortened due to rain, it could become a fast-paced contest like a T20 match, where every ball will be crucial. Both teams will need to adjust their plans quickly.

India is playing its third ICC final in a row (after the 2023 ODI World Cup and 2024 T20 World Cup) and will be eager to win another big trophy.

Will the Weather Stay Clear?

Everyone is now waiting to see what happens on March 9 and 10. Will the match be completed, or will India and New Zealand have to share the trophy because of rain? Cricket fans around the world are excited for this big game!
